Nuevos iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus

Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri, one of the first to report on the possibility of a 4-inch "iPhone 6c," revealed in a recent note to investors that he can no longer find evidence that Apple is working on such a device for 2015.

In the note, picked up by Business Insider, Arcuri speculates Apple may have nixed the idea of a small-screened next-generation iPhone so as not to cannibalize sales of refreshed 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models widely expected to launch this fall.

"I think one of the reasons is because the iPhone 6 has sold so well," Arcuri said. "And they said, 'Look, why would we want to cannibalize? If we came out with an iPhone 6C, we would essentially cannibalize a price-reduced iPhone 6.'"

As the launch of the so-called "iPhone 6s" and "iPhone 6s Plus" inches closer, suppliers have begun shipping Force Touch panels for the next-generation smartphones, according to DigiTimes. The report claims that Apple's supply chain partners started shipping Force Touch panels in limited quantities in June before ramping up production of the pressure-sensitive modules in July.

El iPhone 5C podría tener al menos un sucesor, pero podrían ser varios: iPhone 5c successor to use 14-16nm Samsung and TSMC chips, rumor says

Apple is reportedly working on one or more spiritual successors to the iPhone 5c that will use 14- to 16-nanometer FinFET chips manufactured by suppliers TSMC and Samsung.

The company originally intended to use 20-nanometer TSMC chips, sources in the semiconductor industry explained toDigiTimes. Switching to smaller architecture, however, will allegedly enable upgraded components with better power consumption. The people did not offer any specifics on which processors would be used or what the phones would be called.

The sources suggested though that Apple is not planning to launch them this year, but will instead introduce them in the second quarter of 2016. DigiTimes has a questionable track record, though, and that timing is highly unlikely, as Apple has kept to fall iPhone announcements since 2011's iPhone 4s.

Some sort of 2016 release could be possible however, as multiple reports have hinted at a low-cost device coming next year.

Earlier this year rumors and even parts leaks hinted that Apple was working on an "iPhone 6c." Both appear to have largely dried up, possibly implying that Apple may have been working on such a product, but abandoned it in favor of selling a discounted iPhone 6 alongside the more strongly supported iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

Rumors about the 6c typically agreed that Apple would use a 4-inch display, but disagreed on whether Apple would use a plastic back — as with the 5c — or go with metal.

According to sources, the iOS version of Force Touch is known internally as “Orb.” Instead of opening up a large window of extra controls that did not fit on the screen, as is done on the Apple Watch, Force Touch on the iPhone is designed to skip existing lists of options or button presses. “There is consistent usage of Force Touch across the operating system to ‘shortcut’ actions,” rather than present new options like with the Apple Watch, according to a source.

Apple habría reforzado la carcasa de los 6S: Apple Addresses 'Bendgate' By Strengthening Weak Points of 'iPhone 6s' Shell

Following the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last September, some users began experiencing issues with the larger-sized smartphones bending in their pockets after normal day-to-day usage. The issue -- informally known as "Bendgate" -- became widespread after a video test revealed it does not take much force to cause a slight curvature in the device.

Apple later commented that an iPhone 6 Plus bending under normal use is "extremely rare," adding that it had received only nine complaints from customers about the issue at the time. The company said the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature a "precision engineered unibody enclosure" constructed from 6000 series anodized aluminum and "stainless steel and titanium inserts to reinforce high stress locations" on the devices.

Nevertheless, it appears that Apple engineers have tweaked the design of the so-called "iPhone 6s" by strengthening the weak points of the smartphone's rear shell.

Rumor que serán tres los iPhone: Rumor: Apple to launch three new iPhones concurrently: '6s,' '6s Plus' and '6c'

While a new "iPhone 6s" series is widely expected to be unveiled next month, rumors of a so-called "iPhone 6c" have been less certain. But one rumor published on Tuesday claims that a new, colorful iPhone lineup will indeed launch alongside the latest flagship models.

"Sounds like iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, and 6c will all arrive concurrently," Evan Blass wrote on his @evleaks Twitter account. Blass has been the source of numerous accurate leaks in the past.

Apple is expected to hold a media event on Sept. 9 to unveil its latest iPhone lineup. The company's flagship "iPhone 6s" and "iPhone 6s Plus" are expected to feature Force Touch input, allowing for new ways of interacting with the devices, much like on the Apple Watch

Two of the three major mobile providers in Germany are said to be preparing for an iPhone 6s launch on Friday, September 18, reports German Apple news site Macerkopf [Google Translate]. Carriers expect the iPhone 6s to be available for purchase beginning on that date, which is in line with previous rumors and past launch timelines.

Earlier this month, BuzzFeed's John Packzkowski, who has reliably predicted several Apple event dates in the past, said Apple would hold its iPhone 6s launch event on Wednesday, September 9. After launch events, Apple typically accepts pre-orders on the Friday of the event week, before starting to ship orders on the following week.

9 iPhone event at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium

Following up on rumors circulating earlier this week, a report on Wednesday claims Apple has indeed rented out the large Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco for its upcoming iPhone event.

Citing a "trusted source" who provided documentation concerning event logistics, local publication Hoodline reports Apple is renting out the building through Sept. 12, giving the company more than enough time to set up and break down a large press event. The same publication on Monday suggested Apple could be behind a "private event" to be held at the auditorium from Sept. 4 through Sept. 13.

Documents unearthed this week show plans to modify four windows at the venue to support 15-foot logos. While mock-up images reveal a malformed star shape logo not known to be assigned to any one company, Apple's marketing iconography would fit well over the proposed subframe.

With a capacity of about 7,000 people, the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is a much larger venue than those traditionally used by Apple to host its annual iPhone announcements. For example, San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center can hold 1,470 people, while the site of last year's debut, Flint Center in Cupertino, can accommodate 2,400 visitors.

9 event, iPhone 5c to be discontinued, 5s/6/6 Plus staying

While Apple will unveil a pair of next-generation iPhones at its September 9th event, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, don’t expect a new 4-inch “iPhone 6c” to show up on stage. Sources say that while Apple has been working on a new 4-inch iPhone with the capabilities of last year’s iPhone 6, the device is not yet ready to ship. Interestingly, Apple has also internally prototyped a new, smaller iPhone with a 3.5-inch display, the same size of the iPhone’s screen from the first model in 2007 to the iPhone 4S in 2011, but it does not appear that the company plans to move forward with actually releasing such a device.

In addition to not releasing a new 4-inch phone, Apple currently plans to discontinue the iPhone 5c upon the release of the new 6S and 6S Plus, according to sources. Launched in fall 2013 alongside the iPhone 5s, the iPhone 5c has been controversial for its believed-to-be underwhelming sales numbers and aging feature set. Still available as of today, the iPhone 5c includes the A6 chip introduced with the iPhone 5 in 2012 in addition to older cameras. But for those interested in 4-inch iPhone screens, Apple will retain the iPhone 5s from 2013 and drop the on-contract price to free, per sources. It is possible that the 5c could stay on sale in some regions, much like the iPhone 4 remained available in some budget-conscious countries following its U.S. discontinuation.

Podría haber un iPhone 6S de oro rosa como el Apple Watch: iPhone 6S will come in Apple Watch-like Rose Gold rather than Pink, lack sapphire, and have renamed Force Touch

Earlier this year, reports began to suggest that Apple would launch the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus in an additional color beyond the Space Gray, Silver, and Gold options that have been available in the popular iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s. Since then, there have been conflicting rumors regarding Apple’s color choice: some (including the Wall Street Journal) have claimed that the new iPhones would come in “pink,” while some analysts have referred to the color as “Rose Gold” (the discrepancy could be attributed to the similarity between colors). Today, our sources have confirmed that the new iPhones will actually come in a color that is unmistakably Rose Gold in both appearance and name…

This new Rose Gold color is a copper-like variation on the gold option originally introduced with the iPhone 5s in 2013. Like the standard gold iPhone, the front glass will be white, unlike the black front found on Space Gray models. The new color matches up with the two gold shades available for the Apple Watch, but the Rose Gold on the iPhone will obviously be made from anodized aluminum, rather than the 18-karat gold used in the $10,000+ Apple Watch Edition. Besides animated wallpapers on the Lock screen, the addition of Rose Gold will be the only tell-tale sign that the device is a next-generation model. We’ve also been told that although Apple considered utilizing a sapphire crystal cover for the iPhone screens, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will continue to use ionized glass, which Apple now refers to as “Ion-X glass.”

Besides the new casing color, lack of sapphire crystal on the front of the device, and new animated wallpapers, the new iPhones will include a Force Touch display, support for recording video in full 4K resolution, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and updated front camera with support for flash lighting, a faster A9 processor with improved graphics performance, and more efficient cellular chips made by Qualcomm. Force Touch’s underlying technology will be similar to the implementation in the new MacBooks and in the Apple Watch, but its functionality will focus more on short-cutting iOS features rather than on serving as an additional menu overlay for buttons. With that said, we are told that the pressure-sensitive screen may not be called Force Touch on the iPhone, a detail we’ll discuss more in the near future.

La pantalla con Force Touch podría hacer a los iPhone algo más pesados: Rumor: New display with Force Touch could make 'iPhone 6s' slightly heftier

A leaked display component purportedly destined for Apple's next-generation iPhone has been measured up and comes in heavier and thicker than its counterpart in the iPhone 6, suggesting that the addition of Force Touch might make the "iPhone 6s" bigger than its predecessor.

The part is "slightly thicker" than the iPhone 6 display assembly, despite being glued together rather than using mechanical screws. As noted by MacRumors, the newer component also weighs just under 2 grams more despite lacking a front camera assembly.

The iPhone 6 unit weighs 49.4 grams with camera attached, while the one supposedly destined for the iPhone 6s comes in at 51.2 grams sans camera.

Apple mantendrá los 16GB como capacidad de entrada: Purported 'iPhone 6s' box suggests Apple will keep entry-level capacity at 16GB

A sticker claimed to be for the packaging for Apple's anticipated "iPhone 6s" shows a 16-gigabyte capacity, suggesting that Apple will stick with that memory level for its entry-level model.

Apple faced criticism last year for doubling the capacities on its mid- and high-range iPhone 6 series models, to 64 and 128 gigabytes, respectively, without upping the entry-level model to 32 gigabytes.

Otra patente: Apple patents smart smoke detection system for iPhone

According to a patent granted to Apple on Tuesday, iPhones, iPads and other branded equipment could one day sport onboard smoke detection hardware to alert users, and interested parties, of a potentially dangerous situation.

Apple's U.S. Patent No. 9,123,221 for "Wireless device networks with smoke detection capabilities," as issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, sounds a lot like similar network-connected products like Nest's Protect. However, the solution described by Apple offers a number of benefits over today's fixed location setups, advantages that would make iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and other devices personal, portable fire safety systems.

As part of a networked system, an iOS device would be outfitted with a sensor suite similar to light-based or ionizing smoke detectors commonly found in hardware stores, but shrunken down to fit within a handheld chassis. Some embodiments call on more traditional sensors, like an iPhone's camera, to pull double duty as smoke detection devices.

Parece confirmarse que los iPhone S serán más gruesos y largos: 'iPhone 6s' Measures Slightly Thicker and Larger Than iPhone 6

MacRumors has now received several photos showing an iPhone 6s assembled from parts, allowing full measurements of the device to be taken. Of most interest has been the thickness of the device, and photos show the iPhone 6s measuring 7.08 mm thick compared to Apple's official measurement of 6.9 mm on the iPhone 6. This is in line with previous rumors claiming that each of the new models will be roughly 0.2 mm thicker than the current iPhones, with the iPhone 6s Plus moving to 7.3 mm thick from 7.1 mm.

El Force Touch de los nuevos iPhone es una evolución: iPhone 6s to have ‘3D Touch’ three-level, next-gen Force Touch interface

One of the cornerstone features of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, to be announced next Wednesday, is a screen based on the Force Touch technology from the latest MacBook trackpads and the Apple Watch. However, as we noted in previous articles such as our event expectations roundup from yesterday, the Force Touch feature in the new iPhones will actually be a next-generation version of the technology. According to sources familiar with the new iPhones, the new pressure-sensitive screen will likely be called the “3D Touch Display”…

While the MacBook trackpads and Apple Watch act on two levels of pressure, the differentiation between a tap and a press, the new iPhones will actually differentiate and unique act upon three levels of pressure: a tap, a press, and a deeper press, according to sources. The 3D Touch name is therefore derived from the new Force Touch sensor’s ability to sense three dimensions of pressure, rather than just two. This opens up the door to new user-interface tricks, such as shortcut gestures across the iPhone 6s version of iOS 9.

Take Up About 2x Space of Normal Images

One of the novel new features coming in the iPhone 6s is the new Live Photos feature which captures an additional 3 seconds of video surrounding photos on the new iPhones. The new feature is on by default and allows you to take photos as usual. Apple describes it:

A still photo captures an instant frozen in time. With Live Photos, you can turn those instants into unforgettable living memories. At the heart of a Live Photo is a beautiful 12‑megapixel photo. But together with that photo are the moments just before and after it was taken, captured with movement and sound

Live Photos will be viewable on existing iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watch devices with the latest operating systems. Apple is also opening up the API for developers to support the new format in their own apps. Facebook has already committed to supporting Live Photos in their iOS app later this year.
